Dr. Sunny Okonkwo is a globally recognised AI strategist, data scientist, decision intelligence expert and digital transformation leader with a passion for making artificial intelligence deliver measurable, real-world impact inside complex organisations.
He is a multi-award-winning and internationally bestselling author of 7 books, including the #1 International Bestseller The AI Alchemist, a keynote speaker who has addressed executive, corporate and academic audiences across Africa, North America and Europe, and an independent advisor to boards and leadership teams navigating the intersection of AI, data, cybersecurity and organisational performance.
Dr. Okonkwo grew up with a deep curiosity about how systems, technological, organisational and human, either work or fail to work. He pursued this through an 18-year career that has taken him across telecoms, banking and energy on two continents, and through academic institutions in Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States. He holds a Professional Doctorate in Data Science and AI from the University of East London and a postgraduate degree from Concordia University. He is a certified cybersecurity professional and a practising data scientist whose work sits at the intersection of advanced analytics, AI governance and enterprise decision intelligence.
Today, Dr. Sunny Okonkwo is one of the world's most respected practitioners at the intersection of artificial intelligence, data science and large-scale organisational transformation. In that capacity he has spent 18 years deploying AI and analytics systems across energy, banking and telecoms, sectors where the consequences of poor data and poor decisions are measured not in percentages but in people's daily lives. His work has directly influenced enterprise strategy, commercial performance and executive decision-making at the highest levels of some of Africa's most consequential organisations.
He currently serves as Head of Data Analytics and Information Management at the Sahara Group, one of Africa's largest and most diversified energy conglomerates, where he leads analytics, intelligence and information management programmes that span multiple business units across the continent, directly influencing decisions that affect millions of energy consumers and billions of dollars in revenue.
He is the author of 7 books including the internationally bestselling The AI Alchemist, The Human Covenant, Inside the System, The Lamp, The AI Revolution, Prompt Like a Genius and The Digital Disciple. His writing addresses the most consequential questions at the intersection of artificial intelligence, human judgment, cybersecurity and organisational performance. His books are read by executives, policy makers and technology leaders across Africa, Europe and North America.
Dr. Okonkwo is a sought-after international keynote speaker, having delivered addresses at the IIBA Global Conference, Big Data Summit Canada, the Global Summit and UNICAF. He is a member of AAAI, ACM, IEEE and IIBA, holds professional certifications in cybersecurity and data science, and is an international trainer and lecturer at the QHSE Academy where he has taught professionals across multiple industries and continents since 2021.
Beyond his corporate and advisory work, Dr. Okonkwo is the founder of Librascale, a global consulting, publishing and productions brand operating at the intersection of AI strategy, thought leadership and creative storytelling. Away from his professional life, Dr. Okonkwo is based across Minneapolis, Atlanta, Lagos and London. He is a committed Christian whose faith informs his conviction that technology must ultimately serve human dignity rather than diminish it. His latest book is The Human Covenant.
